When I get to your table I've got a, I'm in a constant motion and I stop and put it on your table, that coffee wants to keep moving and it's going to splash out of the cup onto your table. It's going to stay at rest and it's going to spill off the back end right. So that's what we're talking about okay this is a pretty common sense example and you can state this pretty simply as stuff wants to do with stuff was doing and any good waiter or waitress knows this practice when they fill your coffee cup, if they know Newton's first law they don't fill it all the way up right but because if I've got your coffee cup and I start to go to the table well that coffee wanted to stay at rest. Newtons First Law of Motion also known as Law of Inertia states that every object persists to stay in uniform motion in a straight line or in the state of rest. If I push the ball in this direction it's going to move. The force down on the tennis ball is equaled by the force in my hand pushing up on that ball.

And, indeed, one of these gentlemen is Sir Isaac Newton. But then these gentlemen show up in the 1600s, and you might be surprised to see three gentlemen here, because this is about Newtons first law of motion. What's an unbalanced force? Well I've got a tennis ball right here and I can apply force to it but it's not moving right it's still staying steady that's because this is isn't an unbalanced force this is a balanced force. And once again, this is completly consistent with everyday human experience, this is what weve all experienced our entire lives. The force of gravity pulling down is balanced by the force of my kitchen table pushing up on my cup of coffee. Law of Inertia it's also called Newton's first law of motion simply stated it means an object in motion tends to stay in motion or an object at rest tends to stay at rest unless the object is acted upon by an unbalanced force. Newton’s first law of motion states that an object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion remains in motion with the same velocity unless acted upon by what we call an unbalanced force.
